In the press release, Dr. Jamleck Muturi John, Chairman of the Teachers Service Commission, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to addressing issues affecting the teaching service and ensuring that the interests of all stakeholders are considered.
“The Teacher Internship Programme is a national government initiative aimed at providing practical working experience,” Muturi said in a press release
The Forum for Good Governance and Human Rights recently petitioned the Court to challenge the legitimacy of this program.

The Court ruled in favor of the petitioner but has stayed the judgment until August 1, 2024, allowing the program to continue temporarily.
Teachers Strike
Learning in junior secondary schools (JSS) around the country failed to kick off for the second term as JSS teachers staged a countrywide protest to demand employment on permanent and pensionable terms.
Across most towns, JSS teachers boycotted classes, leaving learners who reported back to school on Monday stranded.
Led by the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) the teachers claim that they are qualified and have TSC numbers and licenses to teach, questioning why they should not be employed.
According to court papers, the commission lacked the financial resources to convert the 46,000 interns to permanent and pensionable terms of service because the national assembly did not appropriate them in the current financial year.
