TSC Appeal to Primary School Teachers in West Pokot to Apply JSS Redeployment: Eligibility
The Teachers Service Commission has urged primary school teachers in West Pokot county who meet the required qualifications to apply for redeployment to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS).
TSC Deputy County Director Joseph Musyoka made this appeal during the closing ceremony of a five-day training program for JSS teachers at Nasokol Girls Secondary School.
Musyoka expressed surprise that only 13 teachers had applied for the 6,000 advertised slots in the area.
Eligibility criteria for teachers
Musyoka outlined the eligibility criteria for teachers interested in moving to JSS positions. They must be actively registered with TSC and currently employed as primary school teachers.
Additionally, they should not be under interdiction or disciplinary proceedings. Qualifications include a diploma in education with at least a C+ grade in two teaching subjects, or a bachelor’s degree in education in Arts or Science disciplines with the same grade in two teaching subjects.
Alternatively, teachers with a postgraduate diploma in education and training in the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) are also eligible.
Those who entered university with a C plain grade but completed a bridging course before pursuing an education degree are similarly qualified.

Moreover, hearing and visually impaired teachers who achieved a C plain grade in two teaching subjects during their diploma studies can also apply.
Several teachers, who requested anonymity, questioned the fairness of taking on additional responsibilities without corresponding changes in their remuneration.
