TSC De-Register 65 Teachers: Reasons

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has taken immediate action, announcing the withdrawal and deregistration of 65 teachers from its register for various violations.

According to a notice published on Friday, April 20, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has deregistered and removed 23 instructors from October 23, 2023, and 43 teachers effective March 8, 2024.

The judgment was made after a careful review of the situations affecting these educators.

In the gazette notification, TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Nancy Macharia confirmed that the teachers had been found guilty of the charges brought against them under Section 30(2) of the Teachers Service Commission Act 2012.

However, neither Macharia nor the Commission identified any particular allegations.

This educator’s deregistration falls under Section 30 of the Teachers Service Commission Act 2012, which specifies several grounds for removal from the register.

Such grounds include false registration, conviction for sexual or criminal offenses, and a physical or mental condition that renders you incapacitated.

Section 30(5) of the Act says plainly that a teacher who is removed from the register loses his or her teaching status as of the date of removal.

Furthermore, reinstatement to the register is only possible under the Commission’s leadership, ensuring strict adherence to professional standards.

Section 44(b) of the TSC Act emphasizes the gravity of misrepresentation by establishing sanctions for falsely claiming to be a registered teacher.

Those found guilty face fines of up to Ksh100,000, imprisonment, or both, emphasizing the importance of such deception.

Furthermore, the Act penalizes unregistered teachers and those who employ unregistered personnel in educational institutions. These procedures seek to safeguard the integrity and quality of education provision throughout the system.

The TSC’s recent action is comparable to previous years’ actions. In 2022, the TSC deregistered more than 100 teachers for a variety of reasons.

In 2023, a Gazette Notice published the names and details of 73 teachers dismissed for disciplinary reasons.

CEO Nancy Macharia underlined that anyone removed from the register must immediately discontinue their educational activity. Notably, the Board of Management (BOM) removed ten of the terminated instructors from their positions.
