TSC Field Officers Protest Allowances Cuts in Teacher Training Program
Controversy has marred the ongoing retooling of Training of Trainers (ToTs) by Master Trainers, who will train Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers.
Field officers, including Sub County Directors of Education (SCDEs), Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), and Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASOs), expressed dissatisfaction.
During the training, they complained about insufficient facilitation from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The officers tasked the ToTs with training JSS teachers to handle Grades 7 and 8 under the Competence Curriculum (CBC) and Curriculum-Based Assessment (CBA), which covers both regular and special needs education (SNE) in junior high and pre-vocational institutions.

Grievances
Specific grievances include a reduction in lunch money from KSh700 per person to KSh450 and a halving of transport funds from KSh1000 to KSh500.
Additionally, there has been a complete denial of water supply. Without any accompanying explanation, they slashed stationery allowances from KSh150 to KSh100.
The affected teachers noted that these reductions have severely impacted the training sessions.
Institutions hosting these events are struggling to provide adequate meals—tea, snacks, and lunch—due to rising commodity prices.
