TSC Sets Dates for Teacher Training on CBC, CBA Assessments
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced training dates for teachers who will administer the competency-based curriculum (CBC) and competency-based assessment (CBA) tests.
Three stages of the training program, which aims to retool teachers, will take place from May 20 to 30, 2024.
From May 20 to 23, various venues will host Training of Trainers (ToTs) for regular and special needs education instructors.
Participants will include ToTs from Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), Teachers Educators from Teachers Training Colleges (TTCs), Quality Assurance and Standards Officers (QASO), and TSC Sub-County Directors (SCDs).
Sub-county and zonal training coordination at the county and sub-county levels will take place on May 24–25, 2024, with master trainers, TOTs, and county directors present.

Retooling of teachers by subject will take place at certain county venues between May 27 and May 30. Participants will include professors of languages, science, mathematics, humanities, and technology.
A multi-agency approach will deliver the training face-to-face, and a smart cascade methodology will build teacher capacity.
The Commission’s effort strives to guarantee that instructors are well-prepared to deliver the CBC successfully.
On April 25, KNEC Chief Executive Officer David Njengere disclosed that the government agency is in the last stages of preparing to conduct a pilot Grade 9 assessment in June. The sample will provide a glimpse of the end of the junior school assessment, which will take place in October.

The CBC pioneer class in Grade 8 will take their exams in October of this year, and the assessment will serve as a transfer tool to Senior School Grade 9.
