TSC Phase 2 Teachers Payrise: Winners and Losers

The recent salary adjustments under the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) have left some educators dissatisfied, despite others benefiting from the first phase of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between TSC and the unions.

While some educators are pleased with their increased monthly pay, others, particularly those in five specific pay grades, did not receive any raise.

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and TSC, along with the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) and the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), signed the agreement that resulted in varied outcomes.

Pay Grades Without Increases

The pay for teachers in Grades C4 and C5 remained unchanged at SH 52,308 and SH 62,272, respectively.

Similarly, the salaries for those in Grades D4 and D5 stayed at SH 114,242 and SH 131,380. These educators saw no benefit from the new wage evaluation under the CBA.

Conversely, teachers in other grades did see increases:

Disparities in Salary Adjustments

Despite some educators celebrating their new salaries, those in certain grades expressed frustration over being excluded from the pay rise.

The disparity has caused mixed reactions within the teaching community, with some feeling overlooked by the current CBA phase.

In conclusion, while the Collective Bargaining Agreement has brought financial benefits to many teachers, the lack of uniformity in pay rises has left a significant portion of the teaching workforce feeling discontented.
