TSC Takes Steps to Support Teachers With Disability in Recruitment Exercise.
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has made significant strides to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for applicants with disabilities during the 2024/2025 teacher recruitment.
As outlined in the official guidelines, TSC emphasizes the need to accommodate individuals with disabilities throughout the selection and verification process.
Accessible Selection Venues
To ensure equitable participation, TSC Sub-County Directors, in collaboration with their respective County Directors and the Regional Director in the case of Nairobi, must guarantee that the venues selected for the recruitment process are accessible to applicants with disabilities.
This includes making provisions for physical accessibility as well as necessary support services.
Indicating Disability Status
Applicants with disabilities are required to declare their status and specify the nature of their disability in their applications.
This information is vital for TSC to appropriately plan for their placement and ensure that they are given equal opportunities during the recruitment process.

Documentation and Assistance
Applicants with disabilities must submit the same documents as other candidates, including their National Identification Card, Certificate of Registration as a Teacher, and academic and professional certificates.
In cases where applicants have hearing or speech disabilities, TSC allows them to work with a sign language interpreter during the verification and interview stages.
Priority for Disabled Applicants
While the recruitment process follows a merit-based system, TSC ensures that applicants with disabilities are given the necessary support and considerations to compete fairly.
Any complaints raised by applicants with disabilities are also taken seriously, with prompt action to address any concerns related to accessibility or discrimination.

Compliance with the Law
In compliance with Kenyan laws, including the Public Officer Ethics Act and the Teachers Service Commission Act, 2012, TSC mandates that all recruitment activities adhere to principles of fairness, transparency, and accessibility for all applicants, particularly those with disabilities.
These measures reflect TSC’s commitment to an inclusive recruitment process, ensuring that no qualified individual is left out due to physical barriers or lack of accommodations.
