A replacement certificate can be obtained through the government’s E-citizen platform, requiring a simple seven-step process.

This ensures a quick and efficient process, eliminating the need for postponing important tasks.

Replacing a lost birth certificate in Kenya is crucial for accessing various citizen services. Here’s how to do it:

Physical Application Process:

  1. Visit the Department for Civil Registration or a Huduma Centre.
  2. Present your birth notification or retrieve a copy if necessary.
  3. Fill in the application form and pay the prescribed fee.
  4. Await notification once the birth certificate is ready.

Essential Documents Required for Physical Application:

  • Copy of birth notification
  • Original national Identity Card
  • Copies of the ID card or Passport of the parents. If a parent is deceased, the death certificate is required.

For both children and adults born in Nairobi, online application options are available:

Online Application for Children:

  1. Log in to your Ecitizen account.
  2. Navigate to the civil registration services tab.
  3. Click on “Application for Child’s Current Birth Certificate.“
  4. Choose “Apply for a Replacement of Birth Certificate” from the drop-down menu.
  5. Complete the necessary information and upload your ID or your parent’s ID, along with a copy of the lost certificate or birth notification, if possible.
  6. Submit your application and make the necessary payment.
  7. You’ll be notified via text message once the processing is complete.

Documents Required for Online Application for Children:

  • Copy of the birth notification/birth certificate
  • A copy of the parent’s ID

Online Application for Adults:

  1. Log into e-citizen.
  2. Select Civil Registration Department.
  3. Choose birth certificate replacement.
  4. Fill in the required details and upload all necessary documents.
  5. Pay the required fee.
  6. Await notification once the birth certificate is ready.
