KNUT Calls for Speedy Rehabilitation of Schools Yet to Reopen
The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has emphasized the urgent need for the rehabilitation of schools that remain closed, to allow learning to resume.
KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu stated that the continued closure disadvantages learners, necessitating immediate action.
While speaking in Kericho, Oyuu noted that although schools reopened on Monday, some institutions are still unsafe for learning.
He highlighted that over 1,600 schools are yet to reopen due to issues such as infrastructure damage and flooding.

Oyuu called on Members of Parliament from the affected areas to allocate funds from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for rehabilitation efforts.
He suggested that, in addition to CDF money, well-wishers should be encouraged to contribute to the cause.
He also urged the Education CS to use the Ministry of Education‘s infrastructure funds to ensure repairs are completed.
