KNUT Meets TSC Ahead of Third Term Teachers Strike

The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu says that a meeting with the TSC was scheduled for Wednesday, August 7.

The purpose of this meeting is to discuss the unresolved issues related to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and potentially avert the planned teachers strike.

Mr. Oyuu highlighted that they had already initiated the first steps by writing to the employer to demand a meeting. Following this meeting, KNUT plans to proceed with issuing a strike notice if necessary.

Oyuu indicated that if the meeting did not result in a resolution, KNUT would proceed with issuing a strike notice. The timing of this planned action coincides with the third term of the academic year.

“The first steps to write to the employer and demand for a seating, which we have done. We should be sitting tomorrow, the 7th of August 2024. Then, we shall proceed ahead and give a strike notice,” stated the Oyuu.

While acknowledging the potential impact on the third term of the academic year, Oyuu defended the timing of the strike.

He argued that the third term was the best time to take action, given the current situation. Despite the legal challenges involved, Oyuu stated that the union felt compelled to act due to the circumstances.
