KUCCPS Releases 2025 University Placement Results as 293,869 Students Secure Admissions.

The government has released the 2025 placement results for candidates who sat the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination, with a total of 293,869 students successfully placed in universities, colleges and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba announced the placement results on Wednesday, July 8, stating that the placement exercise was conducted by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS). The number of successful placements represents a significant increase compared to the previous annual average of approximately 70,000 placements.

According to the Cabinet Secretary, 202,133 students were placed in degree programmes at public and private universities. An additional 28,246 students secured admission to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), while 500 students were placed in Diploma in Law (Paralegal) programmes.

The placement exercise also allocated 765 students to Kenya Utalii College and 875 students to Secondary Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs). The 2025 placement marks the first time that Kenya Utalii College has been included in the KUCCPS central placement system, expanding the range of institutions available to applicants.

Julius Ogamba further announced that 8,915 candidates who qualified for university degree programmes elected to pursue Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) courses instead, indicating increased uptake of skills-based training programmes.

The Ministry of Education also announced that the inter-institution transfer window has been extended from two weeks to one month. The extension will allow students additional time to submit requests to change their institutions or programmes where applicable under the KUCCPS transfer process.

Following the release of the placement results, students can access their KUCCPS accounts to confirm their placement details. The portal displays the institution where each applicant has been placed together with the programme allocated.

The Cabinet Secretary directed all universities and colleges to immediately commence the preparation and issuance of admission letters and joining instructions to facilitate the admission of successful applicants before the commencement of the academic year.

Julius Ogamba also announced that the Higher Education Financing portal has officially been opened for first-time applicants following completion of the placement exercise. Newly placed students can now submit applications for government scholarships and student loans through the Higher Education Financing system.

According to the Ministry of Education, 980,535 candidates who sat the 2025 KCSE examination were eligible to apply for placement through KUCCPS. Of these, 270,508 candidates attained the minimum university entry grade of C+ and above required for admission to degree programmes.

Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service Chief Executive Officer Dr Agnes Mercy Wahome stated that the placement exercise accommodated 81 per cent of all candidates who attained a C+ and above in the 2025 KCSE examination.

Dr Wahome noted that demand for several competitive programmes continued to exceed the available training capacity. She revealed that Bachelor of Medicine programmes received approximately 6,500 applications, while universities had capacity to admit only 702 students into the programme.

Separately, the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) announced that applications for Undergraduate Subsequent Loans are now open. The Board also confirmed that first-time university students who have been placed through KUCCPS can begin submitting applications for government scholarships and student loans through the Higher Education Financing portal.

The release of the placement results marks the completion of the 2025 KUCCPS placement exercise and enables successful applicants to proceed with admission, registration and higher education financing processes for the 2025/2026 academic year.
