According to Wahome, more male students who sat for their national examinations in 2023 applied for degree courses at universities. Conversely, more female students applied for degree programs at TVET institutions.

The CEO reported that 85 percent of 2023 KCSE candidates had C+ and above-made applications, with 76.2 percent opting for degree courses while the rest opted for diplomas (11,991).

The Bachelor of Education program attracted the highest number of applicants. Since the inception of the central placement system, male applicants have consistently dominated placement in degree programs.
