Labour CS Announces 10,000 Jobs for Kenyans in Dubai.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has disclosed plans to hire 10,000 Kenyans for Dubai’s construction sector.

The recruitment drive is scheduled for Friday, January 3, and Saturday, January 4, at the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic, running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

The available positions include steel fixers, masons, scaffolders, carpenters, waterproofing technicians, and general workers. Mutua advised applicants to bring certificates, relevant documentation, and suitable attire for practical assessments.

Successful candidates will receive offer letters immediately following the recruitment process. Mutua explained that a three-day period will be allocated for medical checks and processing, after which visas will be issued.

He assured that travel arrangements would be completed promptly once the visas are ready.

Support for Applicants Without Passports

The Cabinet Secretary stated that expedited passport issuance would be facilitated for those who qualify but lack the necessary travel documents.

To further ease the process, Mutua has negotiated reduced and affordable costs for applicants. Successful candidates will need to cover their tickets, medical fees, and minor processing charges.

Salary and Benefits

According to Mutua, salaries for the positions will range between Sh33,000 and Sh60,000, and will be tax-free. Additional benefits include free accommodation, transport, food, and medical care.

He described the initiative as a transformative opportunity and encouraged Kenyans to participate, saying it offers a promising future.

The recruitment process began in December 2024 at Kabete National Polytechnic in Nairobi and Nyeri National Polytechnic.

This initiative is part of a broader government campaign aimed at securing employment for Kenyans overseas. Despite facing criticism, the government remains committed to addressing the country’s high unemployment rate, particularly among the youth.

Addressing Youth Unemployment

In November, CS Mutua highlighted that over five million young people in Kenya are jobless. He emphasized that the government is implementing various strategies to tackle the issue, including facilitating opportunities in fields such as nursing, gardening, plant operation, culinary arts, security, and domestic work.

Critics have expressed dissatisfaction with the government’s focus on menial jobs abroad rather than creating formal employment opportunities locally.

However, the government continues to defend its initiatives, underscoring their potential to provide much-needed income and improve livelihoods for thousands of Kenyans.
