Term 2 School Academic Calendar 2024: Revised
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has outlined plans to recover the two weeks lost during the floods. Initially scheduled to resume learning on April 29, 2024, students faced a delay of one week due to intensified rains, as announced by the CS.
However, the closure of schools was further extended indefinitely by President William Ruto due to flooding. This decision was later revised based on advisories from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
Term two begun on May 13. According to the schedule, the second term will end on August 5th.
The midterm break which was scheduled for June 20–23 have been changed to June 26 – June 28, 2024.
Students will then have an extended three-week holiday from August 5 to August 25.
Term two for teachers’ training institutions will begin on April 29 and go through August 2. As a result, holidays are scheduled between August 5 and August 30.
According to the revised school calendar for the Second Term:
- May 13: Nationwide reopening of schools after an extended closure.
- June 26 – June 28, 2024: Schools take a half-term break for four days.
- June 30, 2024: Reporting date for all boarding school learners after the half-term break
- August 5: Schools close for the August holidays (the dates are subject to change based on Machogu’s revelations).
- August 23: Schools reopen for Term Three.

- Dates: June 26 – June 28, 2024
- Boarding School Resumption: June 30, 2024:
August Holiday
- Start Date: August 5th, 2024
- End Date: August 23rd, 2024
- Duration: 3 weeks

Term 3, 2024
Following that, the final term of the academic year will last nine weeks, from August 26 to October 25.
- School Opening Dates: August 26th, 2024
- School Closing Dates: October 25th, 2024
- Duration: 9 weeks
KPSEA & KILEA
Exams for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA), scheduled for October 28–31, will take place during this period.
- Start Date: October 28th, 2024
- End Date: October 31st, 2024
- Duration: 4 days
KCSE Exams
The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams are scheduled to take place from November 4 to 22.
- Start Date: November 4th, 2024
- End Date: November 22nd, 2024
- Duration: 3 weeks
These exams will be followed by a lengthy December holiday, from October 28 to January 3, 2025.

December Holiday

The final semester for teacher training institutions will last 11 weeks, from August 26 to November 8. The extended December holidays, from November 11 to January 3, 2025, will follow.
