TSC Salary and Allowances for Deputy Principals and Senior Masters: Job Grade D2 (T Scale 12)
For years, Kenyan teachers have fought for more pay and better working conditions. The 2021–2025 CBA was initially viewed as a substantial step toward addressing these concerns.
However, the amendment was signed on August 28, 2023, resulting in adjustments to the remuneration structure that teachers had long sought.
To promote teacher morale and motivation, the Teachers Service Commission announced a significant compensation increase for Deputy Principals II and Senior Masters 1.
In Grade D2 (T Scale 12), Deputy Principals II and Senior Masters I now earn 92,119 Kenyan Shillings.
The pay increase is part of a bigger package that includes salary points and allowances. Deputy Principals and Senior Masters in these categories are assigned to a wage scale with associated salary points and allowances, allowing for additional differences based on experience and service.

Hardship allowance: Teachers in Grade D2 receive a hardship allowance of 12,000 Kenyan Shillings. This allowance acknowledges the difficulties educators may face when working in tough or isolated places.
Commuter Allowance: Teachers receive a commuter payment of 27,300 Kenyan Shillings. This payment helps instructors cover their regular transportation expenses.

Allowances

Commuter Allowance
Educators receive commuter allowances based on their grade, ranging from KSh 4,000 to KSh 16,000.
Disability Guide Allowance
A fixed allowance of KSh 20,000 is granted across all grades to educators with disabilities.
Leave Allowance
Paid annually in January, this allowance varies by grade, starting from KSh 4,000 for Grade B5 and reaching up to KSh 10,000 for Grades D1–D5.

Housing allowances differ depending on location, with higher rates in Nairobi compared to rural areas.
