TSC to Recruit and Train 20,000 JSS Teachers – PS Kipsang

In a bid to support the transition, the government plans to recruit 20,000 teachers for junior secondary schools.

The goal of this effort is to ensure a seamless transition from grade eight to grade nine.

Dr. Belio Kipsang, the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Basic Education, highlighted the record-breaking recruitment of 56,000 junior secondary teachers in the past 1.5 years.

“Already, we have recruited 56, 000 teachers for junior secondary in the last one and a half years. This is the highest number of teachers to be recruited at once in the country,” he said.

School Capitation and Funding

On the matter of school funding, Dr. Kipsang shared that the Ministry of Education has worked closely with the Treasury to release Sh21.8 billion for school capitation. This allocation includes Sh6 billion for junior secondary schools, Sh14 billion for secondary schools, and Sh1.8 billion for primary schools.

The strategic measures being implemented are geared towards ensuring that the transition from grade eight to grade nine is as smooth and effective as possible, with adequate resources and infrastructure in place.
