Teachers Oppose Gov’t Plan to Shift Civil Servants to Contract Jobs The teaching community has opposed Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria’s proposal to switch civil servants from permanent to contract employment. Akello Misori, secretary-general of the Kenya Union of Post Primary Teachers (Kuppet), characterized the proposal as “mischievous” in a statement released on Wednesday to observe Labour Day. MP Introduces Pension Increase Bill to Protect Government Employees from Inflation Kassim Sawa, a member of parliament for Matuga, introduced the Pension (Amendment) Bill 2024, which sought to augment government employees’ pensions, benefits, and allowances. He added that the measure was intended to protect public personnel against inflation during times of economic turmoil. TSC Sets Dates for Teacher Training on CBC, CBA Assessments The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced training dates for teachers who will administer the competency-based curriculum (CBC) and competency-based assessment (CBA) tests.  Three stages of the training program, which aims to retool teachers, will take place from May 20 to 30, 2024. From May 20 to 23, various venues will host Training of Trainers (ToTs) for regular and special needs education instructors. TSC Delocalization and ‘Disparities’ in Teacher Promotions Stir Controversy and Opposition Chepalungu MP Victor Koech has called on the Education Ministry to clarify what he claims are disparities in teacher promotions in Bomet County.  According to Koech, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently conducted interviews for head teachers and principals, and only four teachers within the county received promotions, while teachers from outside the county received 57 jobs.
