TSC Salaries and Allowances for Newly Employed Teachers
The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), gives a newly hired graduate teacher in Kenya a minimum of Sh34,955 in base compensation each month.
This type of teacher is placed in Grade C2, formerly known as Job Group K, according to the Secondary Teacher II classification.
They receive allowances in addition to their base wage. For C2 teachers, the monthly commuter allowance is Sh5,000.
TSC only pays the leave allowance once a year, at a cost of Sh6,000. TSC pays the house allowance monthly, which ranges from Sh16,500 to Sh7,000.
According to the TSC appointment letter, the newly hired teacher will be on probation for at least six (6) months. TSC may extend the probationary term if the teacher’s performance fails to meet expectations.

They will automatically advance to job group L (now known as grade C3) after three years of service. This comes after they have completed the TSC promotion form.
It is vital to know that your salary will be deducted before you receive your net pay in the account. The deductions are either statutory (HELB, PAYE, NHIF) or third-party (loans, savings, union dues).

Diploma in Education holders get Sh27,195 per month as an entry-level basic salary. They are also eligible for different allowances.
Primary school teachers begin their teaching careers in Grade B5 (Job Group G) with a basic remuneration of Sh21,756 per month.
