TSC Promotions Set to Boost C4 and C5 Teachers
In a recent development, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) reached an agreement with the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) aimed at addressing the long-standing issue of stagnation among teachers in the C4 and C5 categories.
This agreement focuses on promoting 30,000 teachers who have been in these categories for over ten years.
KUPPET had expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of promotions affecting over 50,000 teachers across various job categories, especially those in C5 and C4.
During a meeting held in Naivasha in April 2024, KUPPET submitted a petition urging the government to allocate Sh1 billion to the TSC specifically for the immediate promotion of the identified 30,000 teachers.
According to Akelo Misori, the Secretary-General of KUPPET, the initiative prioritizes C4 and C5 educators, aiming to move them to higher categories such as C5 and D1.
This move is intended to create opportunities for growth among long-serving teachers currently in Grade C3.
KUPPET highlighted that during the recent promotion exercises in 2023 and 2024, approximately 7,400 C4 teachers, who had been in their current positions for at least three years, were overlooked for advancement.
Teachers are eagerly awaiting the implementation of this plan, which not only promises career advancement but also an increase in salary for those in the C4 and C5 categories.
