100 Kisumu Students Get Sh4.25 Million School Fees Relief from Senator Ojienda.

The Office of Kisumu Senator Professor Tom Ojienda has disbursed bursary cheques worth Sh4.25 million to support needy students across Kisumu County through the Watoto Wasome Initiative.

The bursary programme has been established to provide educational financial assistance to learners from disadvantaged backgrounds, with beneficiaries drawn from various sub-counties within the county.

During the latest disbursement exercise, 100 students from Muhoroni and Nyakach Sub-Counties received bursary support aimed at easing school fees obligations and improving access to education among vulnerable learners.

The Senator’s Office Manager, Seth Okumu, stated that the initiative targets students facing financial challenges, including orphans, learners living with disabilities, and students from low-income households.

A total of 50 students from North Nyakach Ward in Nyakach Sub-County and another 50 students from Ombeyi Ward in Muhoroni Sub-County benefited from the latest allocation.

Watoto Wasome Initiative

The Watoto Wasome Initiative, spearheaded by Senator Professor Tom Ojienda, has allocated Sh4.25 million to support needy students across Kisumu County.

Speaking during the bursary cheque distribution exercise, Seth Okumu said the programme was designed to extend educational support to deserving learners who face barriers arising from financial constraints.

Okumu further stated that the bursary allocation fulfilled a commitment made by Senator Ojienda during a visit to Ombeyi Ward, where he provided relief food assistance to families affected by floods.

“When the Senator visited Ombeyi Ward to support families affected by floods with relief food, he pledged to install a floodlight and provide school bursaries to deserving students. That promise is becoming a reality today,” Okumu said.

Educational Support and Community Programmes

The Senator’s Office stated that the initiative was aimed at promoting fairness, inclusivity, and equal access to educational support among learners within Kisumu County.

Okumu noted that the programme was intended to ensure that deserving students are not excluded from educational opportunities due to financial difficulties.

He further acknowledged that the Constitution of Kenya assigns senators the primary responsibilities of legislation, oversight, and representation.

However, Okumu stated that Senator Ojienda had expanded his role through development-oriented programmes designed to address challenges affecting residents.

“Senator Ojienda believes that constitutional responsibilities alone are not enough to create a significant impact in the lives of wananchi. That is why he continuously develops programs that directly benefit the people,” Okumu said.

Beneficiary Distribution

The beneficiaries of the latest bursary disbursement were distributed as follows:
