HELB Loan Applications Move to Stage 2 as Verification Begins for First-Time Applicants.
The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has commenced processing loan applications submitted by first-time applicants, with applications progressing to Stage 2, designated as the verification stage.
Applicants whose applications have reached Stage 2 have been informed that their details have been received and are undergoing verification as processing continues ahead of loan allocation.
The verification stage involves the processing and checking of applicants’ submitted details before applications proceed to the allocation stage.
Following completion of verification, eligible applications will proceed to allocation, where successful applicants will be assigned their respective loan amounts. The allocated funds will subsequently proceed to the disbursement stage.
HELB stated that applicants whose applications are undergoing processing should remain patient as the board continues with the processing and disbursement of loans.
“Applicants are urged to remain patient as the HELB team continues working to process and disburse the loans as quickly as possible,” HELB said.
HELB Loan Application Status Tracking
Applicants can monitor the progress of their loan applications through the Higher Education Loans Board’s online and mobile platforms without visiting HELB offices.
Applicants using the HELB online portal can access their accounts, open the dashboard and select “My Loans” to view the current status of their applications.
The status can also be checked through the HELB United States Short Code (USSD) service by dialling *642# and following the prompts provided.

Applicants can additionally use the HELB mobile application to monitor the progress of their applications.
Stage 2 Verification Status
Stage 2 indicates that an applicant’s details have been received and are undergoing verification before the application proceeds to the allocation stage.
After the verification process is completed, applications that proceed successfully will enter the allocation stage. Successful applicants will then be informed of the loan amounts awarded to them before the applications proceed towards disbursement.
Processing of First-Time Applications
First-time applicants who have not yet submitted their loan applications have been encouraged to apply as early as possible as HELB continues processing applications for available funding.
