Kamutune Kenya School of Agriculture to Be Completed by December 2026, Government Confirms.

The Government has confirmed that the Kenya School of Agriculture under construction at Kamutune in Tigania West Constituency, Meru County, is expected to be completed by December 2026.

The assurance was issued by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Agriculture, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh, during an inspection tour of development projects in Tigania West Constituency. He stated that construction works had been accelerated to ensure timely completion of the institution, which is expected to strengthen agricultural training and support agricultural development within the region.

According to Dr. Ronoh, the Kenya School of Agriculture at Kamutune is being established as a centre of excellence for agricultural education and training. The institution is expected to produce highly skilled graduates capable of strengthening agricultural extension services and improving farm productivity in Tigania West Constituency and across the country.

During the inspection tour, the Principal Secretary also assessed the ongoing construction of agricultural aggregation centres at Urru and Ngundune. He stated that the facilities are intended to serve as last-mile fertilizer distribution hubs while also providing storage facilities where farmers can safely preserve their produce as they await favourable market prices.

Dr. Ronoh stated that the Kenya Kwanza Administration, under the leadership of President Dr. William Ruto, remains committed to implementing development projects across the country and delivering commitments made to the public through accelerated project implementation.

He encouraged residents of Tigania West to invest in residential housing to accommodate students, trainers and other personnel who are expected to relocate to the area once the Kenya School of Agriculture begins operations.

The Principal Secretary also urged coffee farmers to expand production by increasing the number of coffee bushes under cultivation. He noted that coffee prices had risen significantly over recent years, increasing from approximately KSh50 per kilogram in 2022 to about KSh150 currently.

Dr. Ronoh expressed optimism that returns from coffee farming would continue improving, stating that farmers should take advantage of the prevailing market conditions by increasing production.

On macadamia production, the Principal Secretary stated that the Government had introduced regulations requiring macadamia nuts to undergo processing before sale. He noted that the measure is intended to enhance farmers’ earnings through value addition and encouraged growers to maintain high quality standards while assuring them that the Government would continue facilitating market access for their produce.

He added that reforms implemented within the agricultural sector are intended to ensure that farmers receive improved returns from agricultural production.

Tigania West Member of Parliament Dr. John Mutunga called upon residents to continue supporting Government programmes to facilitate the implementation of all the 27 development projects planned for the constituency.

The Member of Parliament identified the ongoing tarmacking of the Kunene–St Ann–Miomponi Road and the Kirindine–Miathene Road among the key infrastructure projects currently under implementation.

Dr. Mutunga stated that Tigania West Constituency had experienced slow development for many years and noted that the ongoing projects are intended to accelerate economic growth and improve infrastructure within the constituency.
