KNEC Announces Hundreds of 2026 KCSE Examiner Vacancies for Teachers.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has announced the recruitment of assessors for the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) oral and practical examinations.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, the Council invited qualified secondary school teachers and college tutors to submit applications for the assessor positions. KNEC stated that applications must be submitted by July 15, 2026.
KNEC indicated that professionals identified through the recruitment process will undergo on-the-job training during the assessment of the 2026 KCSE examination papers. The Council stated that the training is intended to equip assessors with the required marking standards, assessment procedures, and operational guidelines applicable during the examination marking process.
According to the official recruitment circular, assessors are being recruited for the following KCSE oral and practical examination papers:
- Power Mechanics Practical
- Electricity Practical
- Aviation Technology Practical

KNEC outlined the eligibility requirements for applicants seeking appointment as assessors. The Council stated that applicants must:

KNEC further stated that applications must be submitted through the KNEC Examiners’ Portal. Applicants are required to log in using their existing Contracted Professionals (CP2) account credentials or create a new CP2 account where necessary before accessing the vacancies section of the portal and submitting an application.
The Council added that teachers who are already listed in the KNEC database of assessors are not required to submit fresh applications.
The recruitment exercise is being undertaken amid ongoing concerns regarding delayed payment of examination personnel who participated in the administration of the 2025 national examinations.
Thousands of teachers are yet to receive payments for invigilation and marking services despite the release of KSh1.5 billion by the National Treasury to facilitate settlement of the outstanding arrears.

In May 2026, the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) directed its members to boycott invigilation and marking of the 2026 national examinations until all outstanding payments relating to the 2025 examination exercise are settled.
KNEC has not linked the current recruitment exercise to the ongoing payment dispute and has continued with preparations for the administration and assessment of the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations.
