KNEC Opens Highly Sought-After KCSE and KJSEA Examiner Training for Teachers.
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has invited qualified teachers and tutors to apply for training as examiners for the 2026 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
In a notice issued on Friday, July 10, 2026, KNEC announced that the examiner training programme will be conducted between July and August 2026 using a blended learning model comprising an online training phase followed by a residential physical session.
The council stated that shortlisted applicants will be notified through the KNEC Examiners’ Portal and Short Message Service (SMS). Successful applicants will be required to pay a training fee of Ksh10,500 before participating in the training programme.
“KNEC is inviting applications from qualified teachers and tutors to train as examiners for the Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination,” the council stated.
KJSEA Examiner Training Vacancies
According to KNEC, examiner training opportunities are available for the following Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) learning areas:
- English
- Kiswahili
- Mathematics
- Integrated Science
- Agriculture
- Social Studies
- Christian Religious Education
- Creative Arts and Sports
- Pre-Technical Studies
- Special Needs Education papers
KCSE Examiner Training Vacancies
For the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), KNEC announced vacancies in the following examination papers:
- Kiswahili
- Biology Practical
- Islamic Religious Education
- Computer Studies
- French
- German
- Arabic
- Special Needs Education papers
Eligibility Requirements
The Kenya National Examinations Council stated that applicants must satisfy all the prescribed eligibility requirements before submitting their applications.
Applicants must:
- Be practising teachers or tutors in the relevant subject area.
- Be registered or employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) or the Public Service Commission.
- Possess a minimum qualification of a Diploma in Education.
- Have at least three years of teaching experience.
- Be recommended by the head of their institution.
- Be aged 50 years or below.
- Not be serving any interdiction or disciplinary action by the Teachers Service Commission or their employer.
KNEC noted that only applicants who meet all the stated requirements and submit the required documentation will be considered during the shortlisting process.
Application Process
Applications are required to be submitted through the KNEC Examiners’ Portal.
Teachers and tutors are required to log into the portal using their CP2 accounts. Applicants who do not have CP2 accounts are required to create new accounts before accessing the available examiner training vacancies and submitting their applications.
The council added that shortlisted applicants will receive notifications through SMS and the KNEC Examiners’ Portal before proceeding with payment of the prescribed training fee.

Engagement of Successful Examiners
KNEC stated that candidates who successfully complete the examiner training programme will subsequently be engaged to mark Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination papers in accordance with the council’s examiner recruitment requirements and operational personnel needs.
The recruitment exercise follows the Government’s recent release of Ksh1.5 billion to settle outstanding marking allowances for teachers who marked the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) examinations.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba confirmed that the funds had been disbursed directly to examiners’ bank accounts, concluding the payment process ahead of preparations for the 2026 national examinations.
